long time no see – plant update #5

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a plant update. I have many of the same plants, lost some, and gained some. Here’s something to catch you up to speed. I also do this to document my plants’ growth, and how far they’ve come. Especially Alejandro- I’ll get to him.

The plant table ft. Stuffing.

In my new home, I have a lovely tall window that gets south facing light. I put this table I thrifted in the path of the window’s light so that it gets the most sun for about 4 hours a day.

On it I have my monstera who is struggling, a very happy pothos, a wonderful alocasia, 3 different philodendrons (heart leaf, black cardinal, prince of orange), a droopy caladium, a pilea which recently stemmed another plant, and a string of coins.

Next I have my bedroom plants, which is mostly terrariums. My favorite terrarium that was gifted to me by my boyfriend of 2 years when we first started dating- one of the original plants in it is still kicking. This is a huge feat since it’s been through a lot, including being in a pitch-black storage unit for months. That’s why I call the terrarium as a whole “love, persisting”.

Bedroom plants.

I have one big plant left, my big calathea and dragon tree decided to die right after I moved. Rip. It’s my snake plant, who I probably will have to upsize the pot for. Unsurprisingly doing great!

Super tall!

Finally I have my windowsill succulents/cacti which happen to be my most favorites, and some have names.

Downstairs… I have Janis Joplin, the string of pearls, who got super dried up and died at her roots, so I had to chop off the tendrils and propagate them a month or so ago. Now she’s rooted and doing great! Then I have a haworthia named Alien, an aloe with 2 baby plants, a string of hearts cutting I got from my friend Nicole, a burro tail, and a bitch of a cactus named Pickle who stabbed me many times.

Downstairs windowsill.

Then upstairs… I have a Christmas cactus which was a cutting from my grandma’s plant, originally one segment, now 6 segments and a flower.

Alejandro, my “string of bananas” is actually a ruby necklace plant, which I didn’t know until about a week ago. Cool! Here’s his amazing growth, about 6 months into having him to now. He started as one single piece and is doing so good that there’si now cute yellow flowers everywhere. Also, Kingston II, my bear paw, is doing great. I’ve had to size up his pot twice now.

I’m so happy with everyone’s growth and progress, and my own along with them. My thumb has gotten much greener.
